Getting a new job isn’t always an easy process. In fact, when you reach a certain level or work in a high powered industry, you may often be working with a recruiter to find a job that fits you. The recruitment process varies by firm and by candidate, but to get an overall sense of what actually occurs during the recruiting process, our professional recruiters give us an inside look at the process and what candidates can expect.
Look at the Marketplace
While back in the day, it was all about cold calling, today we have seen things become more digital. Because of this, a majority of candidates are found online. As a candidate, it’s important to have a Linkedin account and a presence online, as that is where a majority of recruiters will find potential hires. Programs like Linkedin recruiter, Zoom Info and certain email services give recruiters easy access to candidates, who are able to reply quickly while on their phones or computers during the work day. In addition to internet tools, referrals and past open recommendations are also a big part of the scouting process.
Speak with Candidates
Once the scouting process is done, the next step is to speak with the candidates. When we get the candidate on the phone, we give them a run down of the job and the position as a whole. We also give them a bit of insight into the firm and what the firm is looking for in a new hire. If that all works well, depending on the role, we may want to meet with them in person. Generally, after people hear more about the role from us, they’ll give us the green light or they will say they aren’t interested. If they are interested, we will share the resume with the client and see if there is interest on their end. If so, we will set up a meeting with the client and candidate and let the process begin.
Help with the Interview Process
If a candidate gets to the interview stage, it is our job to take the candidates through the whole process. We will help them prep, walk them through each stage of the interview process, and be in continuing talks with them throughout. We will also talk to the company and go back and forth with them as needed, discussing their interview process and any questions they may have along the way.
A recruiter should also help you with the small details, like what you should wear, the questions you should have prepared, and the information about the company that you should know before arriving.
Give an Offer Letter
After the interviews have been conducted and the company comes to a final decision, it is usually the recruiter who will reach out to extend an offer to the candidate. Once a verbal agreement is given, an offer letter will be written up by the company and sent to the candidate to approve and sign. From there, the candidate will be given entirely over to the company to learn more about compensation, benefits and start dates.
Candidates who do not receive an offer will be contacted by the recruiter as well. While this is often a difficult phone call to receive, it’s important to note that candidates who made it this far will often be noticed by the recruiter, and should a new opportunity arise that fits them, the recruiter will have them on file and often contact them first before going back into the marketplace.
